This position is for a Manufacturing Engineer Co-op that will work at the Industrial nozzle manufacturing facility in West Des Moines, IA. This position is for a student seeking an experience in using engineering principles in a manufacturing environment. If selected, the employee will become familiar with Collins Aerospace products, manufacturing objectives and state of the art manufacturing techniques. This position is full-time, Monday-Friday, and will run January- August; it is only eligible for current students with a graduation date past August 2023.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Technical problem definition and solution in a manufacturing environment.

  • Liaison with design engineering on incorporating changes to the designs which improve manufacturability.

  • Determine the most efficient sequence of operations and workflow, and establish methods for maximum utilization of production facilities and personnel.

  • Conduct studies pertaining to cost control, cost reduction, inventory control through the application of Lean principles.

  • Prepare cost estimates for proposed projects and evaluate cost factors.

  • Plan and design facilities layout for manufacturing processes and equipment.

  • Solve Manufacturing Engineering problems of varying levels of complexity.

  • Develop tools that enable manufacturing, aid process improvement or address safety concerns.

  • Create assembly work instructions utilizing SolidWorks Composer.

  • Assist in resolving eQCPC turnbacks for Manufacturing Engineering.

    Basic Qualifications

  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and student must be pursuing a Bachelor's or advanced degree in an applicable discipline.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • A thorough understanding of lean manufacturing.

  • Intermediate user of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) including MS Project.

  • Ability to work independently and with small team

  • Machining and/or assembly experience including fixture design, tooling design and Geometric Dimensioning/Tolerancing (GD&T).

  • Experience with special processes including vacuum brazing, heat treat and TIG weld.

  • Knowledge of 3D printing for tools and/or fixtures.

  • Project and Budget Management.

  • SAP experience is a plus.

  • Design experience with SolidWorks is a strong plus.

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.

Hybrid: Employees who are working in Hybrid roles will work regularly both onsite and offsite. Ratio of time working onsite will be determined in partnership with your leader.

Remote: Employees who are working in Remote roles will work primarily offsite (from home). An employee may be expected to travel to the site location as needed.
