Athene Community Engagement Intern- Summer 2025 in West Des Moines, Iowa

Internships will run from mid-May to early August

These are in-office internships at our West Des Moines located at 7700 Mills Civic Parkway.

Interviews and hiring decisions expect to be completed prior to mid-November, with some being completed as early as late September.

Accountabilities:

  • Lead several projects related to Community Engagement:

  • Collaborate on volunteer plans, including how to internally market and recruit volunteers for several local recurring community events (some weekend events) and on-site volunteer events

  • Lead project to celebrate and acknowledge recipients of an annual external Athene program both internally and through social media

  • Assist with a variety of projects to celebrate, reward and bolster existing employee relationships with local nonprofits

  • Partner with employee resource groups (ERGs) on event management for community events and administrative reporting in Benevity, our online event system

  • Provide recommendations for improvements to programs, processes and systems

  • Participate in cross-functional team projects

  • Shadow areas across HR to gain exposure to the entire function: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Talent Acquisition, Organizational and Employee Development, Benefits & Wellness and HR Policy and Programs

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Pursuit of degree in Business, Liberal Arts, or another related field required with a focus on Human Resources, Corporate Social Responsibility, Organizational Development, Leadership or Communications preferred

  • Ability to work independently and make decisions; including when to escalate to a senior HR team member

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Strong communication, presentation and influencing skills

  • Experience leading, planning and organizing projects independently and with a team

  • Comfort using a variety of features within the Microsoft Office Suite products independently – Excel, PowerPoint and Word are preferred

  • Ability to share knowledge, accept feedback and work in a strong team-oriented environment
