The focus of this internship is to develop the base skills and knowledge necessary for a future actuarial or healthcare analytic-focused career.

The intern will work with business teams to understand healthcare/insurance functions, and develop data, programming, and analytic skills.

Assignments will focus on Anthem’s California Commercial business.

The intern will assist in various projects, with rotational assignments to gain knowledge of actuarial, underwriting, market/segment products and pricing, and network related topics.

Primary duties may include:

  • Analyze and summarizehealthcare data

  • Perform statisticalanalysis and/or create models for assigned topics

  • Provide data,analysis, and/or decision support modeling for assigned projects, such aspremium/pricing, medical economics, benefit design, and network studies

  • May develop queries toextract data from source systems

  • Present projectresults and findings in writing and verbally

  • Outreach acrossseveral teams to obtain necessary related information

This job is for participants of an approved internship program for undergraduate college students. Specific work assignments will vary by department. C29 Assignments must meet the definition of meaningful work. Must be part of an approved academic course of study, and that course of study must be applicable to the company's operations or the support of those operations. Skills and ability requirements vary based on assignment.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing degree or isa recent graduate with a bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline such as Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, or Engineering

  • Mathematical aptitudeand interest in pursuing an actuarial or healthcare data analytics career

  • Proficiency withquerying or summarizing data and MS Excel experience

  • Candidates shouldpossess intellectual curiosity, collaborative mindset, motivation to developand/or refine analytic skills, and an interest in the healthcare industry.
