Under direct supervision, the AutoCAD/Drafting Intern will assist in reviewing and updating building drawings as necessary using specialized design and drafting (CAD) software. POSITION PURPOSE

Under direct supervision, the AutoCAD/Drafting Intern will assist in reviewing and updating building drawings as necessary using specialized design and drafting (CAD) software. The Intern will also assist the safety officer help to organize and maintain existing records and aid in the writing policies and procedures. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES:

1.

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide service/care appropriate to the age of the patients served, in accordance with Mercy standards.

2.

Edits design plans using computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) software.

3.

Reads mechanical and electrical drawings.

4.

Adds detail to architectural plans from their knowledge of building techniques.

5.

Understands Regulatory codes based on OSHA, Joint Commission, NFPA, etc.

6.

Assists in implementing any new processes.

7.

Assists in the development of intra and interdepartmental policies and procedures and monitors implementation and compliance with the Medical Center’s policies.

8.

Assists to ensure compliance with requirements and standards of regulatory and accrediting agencies and local, state, and federal laws and regulations.

9.

Assists in creating the Statements of Conditions for all Mercy buildings and property for or with Director of Facilities, as directed.

10.

Recognizes and communicates issues/occurrences utilizing established lines of authority, and assists in identifying ways to resolve variances or unacceptable outcomes.

11.

Actively participates in department meetings, committees, conferences, and in services.

12.

Assists in creating an environment of organizational learning about patient, associate and visitor safety and medical/health care error reduction, supports sharing of knowledge, and foster behavioral changes to improve all who are at Mercy – Sioux City facilities safety. Complies with Safety and Infection Control Policy and Procedure.

13.

May periodically be requested to drive.

14.

Is detail orientated and self-motivated, can work on their own and is very well organized.

15.

Actively participates in improving patient, visitor and associate safety and reducing risk to all. Complies with Safety and Infection Control Policy & Procedure.

16.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must be actively enrolled in a college, university or technical school a degree in Engineering, drafting or a related field and be in good standing. 1-2 years of drafting experience preferred. Mastery of basic commands of AutoCAD. OSHA Training Preferred. Formal CAD training preferred. Must possess critical thinking skills. Must demonstrate ability to work as a team member and to work independently. Demonstrate strong written and oral communication and organizational skills. Excellent interpersonal/listening skills to interact effectively with individuals of all backgrounds, experience and educational levels. Is able to perform a variety of duties characterized by frequent change. May be requested to travel within the Siouxland region. When assigned to travel, a valid drivers license and proof of insurance will be submitted to manager prior to travel. Must have a general working knowledge of computers and department specific software (i.e. Healthstream, internet, etc.) Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment. Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of Mercy and Trinity Health.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Must possess the ability to comply with Mercy and Trinity Health policies and procedures. This job is categorized as ""Medium Work"". Has the physical stamina to meet the requirements of this job. Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and /or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly. Must be able to handle stress effectively. Must understand and accept the possibility of exposure to environmental elements, internal and external, which may affect the work place, such as infectious disease, chemical and/or chemical fumes, dust, noise, physical injury from an out of control patient, and adverse effects of inclement weather which may occur.
