JOB SUMMARY :

The objective of a Quality Assurance Intern is to build capability and provide a pipeline of future talent for Michael Foods. An intern will be introduced to entry level activities, which include but are limited to Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) and HACCP principles.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :

  1. Assist in drafting, revision, and plant standard operating procedures. (Primary focus of this current position).

  2. Act as a liaison between Production, Distribution, Sanitation, Maintenance, and the Quality Department.

  3. Participate in plant food safety/quality inspections, in-process inspections.

  4. Verify sanitary condition of production lines prior to start-up and after downtime requiring maintenance activity.

  5. Perform investigative environmental swabbing of critical production equipment/areas as a troubleshooting guide.

  6. Expected to adhere to safe work practices, follow GMP and HACCP guidelines, maintain sanitary conditions and ensure that product quality is maintained. Report to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety, food quality or personnel safety.

  7. Performs other duties as assigned by site QA manager.High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent. Demonstrated proficiency in EXCEL and WORD LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  8. Bilingual preferred (Spanish/English) but not required

  9. Enrolled or attending an accredited 2 or 4 yr college/university.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  1. Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  2. Write routine reports and correspondence.

  3. Speak effectively before groups, customers/vendors or employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

  1. Basic proficiency using computer programs (MS Office) for collecting and analyzing data, and writing procedures and reports.

  2. Demonstrated proficiency in critical thinking and problem-solving.

  3. Ability to participate in cross-functional teams.

  4. Data collection, analysis, and reporting skills.

  5. Skill in working with computers and experience with spreadsheet and word-processing software
