Research Intern: Phenotyping Technologies (Job Number: 200273W-01)
Corteva Agriscience, the Agriculture Division of DowDuPont, is seeking creative and motivated candidates for a co-op in science and agriculture to advance high quality germplasm and sustainable practices throughout the world. Corteva is seeking to hire a 6-month Co-op to contribute to the development of precision phenotyping technologies and methods towards quantifying crop water use and water status. The co-op is designed to gain familiarity with the Corteva Agriscience organization, engage in practical real-world problems and work on method development experiments that benefit specific end-users. Co-ops in the program will be expected to present their work at the conclusion of the co-op.
Precision phenotyping is changing the way that researchers and farmers study and manage agriculture and is being driven by the realized value and promise of precision agriculture.
The co-op will be expected to work with a multidisciplinary team to advance our research organization’s efforts to measure crop water use and water status using innovative techniques and sensors. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Leading and contributing to data collection in the field.
Aiding in the design and execution of experiments for quantifying crop water use and water status using energy balance measurements and methods for multiple crops.
Contribute in the design of data collection systems to quantify crop water use and water status using open-source hardware and off the shelf sensors.
Processing and statistical evaluation of precision phenotyping information.
Quickly identifying issues, proposing solutions, and leading implementation of improvements.
Sharing research findings internally through presentations and scientific meetings.
Promote a safe and professional working environment while maintaining commitment to Corteva’s core values.
A successful applicant will have
Experience in the instrumentation and measurement techniques to quantify crop water use and water status.
Experience in working with open source microcontroller hardware.
Experience making statistical inferences into data.
Knowledge of experimental design and hypothesis testing.
Knowledge or experience in multidisciplinary settings and integrating multiple information areas.
Willingness to serve clients and adaptive to their needs.
Superior communication skills with a demonstrated ability to work across disciplines with a variety of people.
Demonstrated abilities in self-motivation and challenging assumptions.
Enthusiasm and demonstrated abilities to solve problems.
Bachelor’s degree in plant sciences, remote sensing, data science, engineering, or a related field, OR two or more years of related experience equivalent to the education background listed.
Some experience in agriculture, agricultural instrumentation and measurement techniques, and data science.Requested Documentation:
