Corteva Agriscience Germplasm Security Research Intern in Johnston, Iowa

Description

Corteva Agriscience is seeking a Germplasm Security Research Intern in our Seed Product Development group to participate in a 3-month internship in Johnston, Iowa. This internship is designed to provide research experience through activities in plant breeding and intellectual property (IP) protection of germplasm. You will have an opportunity to gain exposure across multiple aspects of germplasm protection including IP protection mechanisms, market surveillance, and related activities. In addition, there will be opportunities to engage in industry policy projects related to each IP sub-category in various crops.

Responsibilities - What You'll Do:

  • Work as part of a team in one or more of the following research and IP areas: field and lab activities / analysis centered around Plant Variety Protection and Utility Patent filings, and other related activities.

  • Responsible for big data analysis and developing robust and efficient computational solutions in the space of genetic profiles, including allelic variation, which can be translated into decision making outputs.

  • Support technical initiatives within Corteva assessing parental contributors to genetic elements using DNA profiles in a diversity of crop species. This may include evaluating different methods and inputs to define optimum parameters and performance.

  • Manage your own research project with the expectation of a verbal report to the larger intern group found throughout the United States.

  • Intern positions provide excellent experience that can be applied to full time positions in the industry, or in preparation for additional graduate level training in the plant sciences.

Qualifications

Qualifications - What You'll Bring:

  • Interns can be undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in an accredited university.

  • Education focus in Genetics, Plant Breeding, Plant Physiology, Biology or a related plant science field

  • Confidence and capability in a scientific programming language (Python, R, Julia) or a systems programming language (C++, C#, go, rust).

  • Experience in a team/collaborative working environment

  • Preference will be given to student with a minimum GPA of 3.0

  • Must be enrolled at an accredited university at the time of internship
