Controlled Environments Intern -Seed Handling and Processing (Job Number: 200581W-01)

Description

Corteva Agriscience is seeking an intern to work within the Controlled Environment seed handling and processing team. The seed handling and processing team works with a variety of crops by managing harvest, shelling and seed storage activities.The successful candidate will be involved in a research project focused on improving our understanding of current harvest activities for new greenhouse crops (ex. legumes, cotton, canola) with the support of the research associates. The candidate will be conducting the research activities, that may include harvest, threshing/shelling, processing, counting and storage. The intern will work with the team to develop a best practice document and is expected to present findings at the end of the internship.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conducts experiments to completion, according to specific procedures, learning to exercise independent judgment and discretion as appropriate.

  • Summarizes results of experiments, noting problem areas, while recommending actions to be taken within standard procedures.

  • Must present the research project at the end of the internship.

  • May be requested to assist in day to day operations.

  • May be requested to assist in conducting experiments at other research sites, laboratory areas, or groups.

  • May be requested to maintain appropriate inventory of chemicals and/or supplies necessary for the completion of experiments at work location.

  • Must have basic computer skills and be able to learn and use new software as required by job

  • Work with Senior Research Associate to develop and execute experiments.

  • Balance multiple tasks during a day and be able to prioritize them.

  • Must be able to work independently and within a group/team setting.

  • Take direction from team applying this to the project.

  • Make daily decisions associated with conducting experiments.

  • Student majoring in agronomy, agricultural engineering, genetics or plant biotechnologies (physiology, molecular biology and biochemistry.

  • Must have a strong safety mindset.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as math and computer skills (Excel or JMP are a plus).

  • Individual must have a high degree of self-motivation, self-initiative, and ability to work well with others.

  • Previous research experience preferred, but not required.

  • Knowledge in crop threshing, seed processing and conditioning preferred.

  • May be required to do physical lifting, exposed to high levels of noises, dust and long periods of time in varying ergonomic environments (all appropriate personal protective equipment will be provided)
