Cambridge Investment Research, Inc. IT Cybersecurity Intern in Fairfield, Iowa

Cambridge has recruited talented interns from across the country to join us during the summer for a 10-12 week internship. Each year, over 35 interns join us for a paid summer internship experience at our home offices in Fairfield, Iowa and Phoenix, Arizona. The Next Step internship program gives students practical insight into the financial services industry and allows students to gain practical knowledge in their field. Students are partnered with a professional mentor, supervisor, and executive leader to gain networking opportunities and learn from industry professionals. At the conclusion of the internship, each intern will have the opportunity to present on their experience and a specific project of their choice.

The Security Operations team provides technology security support to internal Cambridge associates, our financial professionals, and our data centers. This team is often tasked with reviewing phishing emails, setting up secure mobile device access, and communicating with users to troubleshoot problems. This team also investigates business email compromises, conditional access alerts, Brute Force Attacks, and unusual user behavior and alerts from the security information and event management (SIEM) provider. They utilize Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) software to make sure infected files are not corrupting the user’s computer and network.

We have one Cyber Security Internship available in the Fairfield, IA office.

As the Cyber Security Intern, you will:

  • Complete daily security tasks to identify alerts that need investigating

  • Release emails, as requested, from the Forcepoint email gateway queues

  • Investigate identity detection and response (IDR)/managed detection and response (MDR)

  • Use the KnowBe4 platform to review phishing emails

  • Investigate alerts and act on findings using Carbon Black and Malwarebytes

  • Complete a Cybersecurity Risk assessment

  • Participate in red team/blue team exercises

Compensation: $19-$23 per hour.

This range is a good faith estimate of the compensation to be offered for this position based on the ideal candidate’s qualifications, the Company’s operational needs, and other considerations permitted by law. The actual pay offered to a specific candidate may vary above or below the stated range.

Following the summer internship, interns have access to the Next Step Intern Alumni LinkedIn group to stay in touch with Cambridge and other past interns.
