MercyOne Central Iowa operates four not-for-profit Catholic medical centers in Des Moines West Des Moines Newton and Centerville and two specialty hospitals – MercyOne Children’s Hospital in Des Moines and MercyOne Rehabilitation Hospital in Clive (965 beds total) – along with more than 20 additional facilities that house more than 50 primary care pediatric internal medicine and specialty clinics. Prepares patient drug orders.
Delivers medications and IV admixtures to patient rooms, critical care areas, and other ancillary areas.
Reviews patient MAR and care plans to determine need to return medication to the pharmacy for credit.
Picks up medication orders from nursing areas and distributes for processing.
Credits to the patient and restock usable medications/IVs returned to the pharmacy.
Files medication orders.
Fills unit-dose exchange envelopes.
Processes medication drawers and orders files for admissions, discharges, and transfers.
Assists the pharmacists with audits.
Completes assigned unit inspections.
Restocks automated medication dispensing machines (AcuDose or Pyxis).
Enters fill stock requisitions for other departments.
Restocks tackle boxes and cart inserts (crash carts, airway carts, latex carts), and completes check in/out process.
Communicates stock utilization and ordering needs.
Checks medication expiration dates and alerts pharmacist when needed.
High school diploma or GED.
Current enrollment in a pharmacy school or program or proof of verbal commitment to a pharmacy school or program.
Must be registered as a pharmacy intern with the State of Iowa at the time of hire or registered as a Technician in Training for up to 12 months until able to apply for Intern status after first day of pharmacy school or program. May also be registered as a Certified Pharmacy Technician until Intern status can be obtained.
Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training for child and dependent adult abuse within three (3) months of hire.
