Principal Financial Group Product Management Internship (Summer 2025) in Des Moines, Iowa

What You'll Do

Join our highly regarded internship program, which has been fostering future leaders for over 20 years. With opportunities for 200+ interns annually, you'll work on real projects that drive value for our business and customers. Collaborate with a wide range of team members, from fellow interns to senior management, in an Agile, purpose-led environment. Each intern is assigned a formal leader and mentor to provide guidance throughout the program. As a Product Management Intern, You Will:

  • Partner with business collaborators and cross-functional teams to find opportunities and deliver customer-focused outcomes.

  • Define and prioritize business goals and outcomes for Agile teams, ensuring alignment with broader strategic goals.

  • Collaborate with teams to create, refine, and manage product roadmaps and features, ensuring clarity of scope and business value.

  • Gain experience in planning and managing iterations, stories, and Agile ceremonies that support successful product delivery.

  • Share insights on upcoming product features to create alignment and shared understanding among stakeholders and delivery teams.

Who You Are

  • Currently pursuing or holding a degree in business, management, STEM, or related fields.

  • Actively engaged in leadership roles or organizations on campus, in the community, or through previous work experiences.

  • Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

  • A strong work ethic with a passion for solving business challenges through innovative solutions.

Skills That Set You Apart

  • A foundational understanding of product management principles, including product roadmapping, backlog prioritization, and Agile methodologies.

  • Prior internship or work experience in product management, consulting, or a related field.

  • Experience with tools or concepts such as:

  • Business Process Mapping

  • Customer Experience (CX) or User Experience (UX) principles

  • Agile frameworks like Scrum or Kanban

  • Data analysis and strategic decision-making

  • Leadership roles that demonstrate your ability to collaborate and inspire others.

Salary Range Information

Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.

Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)

$28 - $32 / hour

Time Off Program

Paid company holidays and any time off required in your state.

Internship Stipend

You will receive a lump sum stipend of $3,000. This amount is intended to support incidental expenses you may incur as part of your internship. The Company will provide a tax gross-up on this stipend as a financial benefit, but is not intended to compensate for all tax liabilities.

Work Environments

This role offers in-office and hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek) work arrangements out of our Des Moines, IA corporate office.
