The SMA Investment Operations Extended Internship within Principal Global Investors is the perfect opportunity to gain real world experience in the investment management industry. This extended internship will allow you to play a key role in supporting the investment management process by focusing on process improvement, daily operational tasks, strong controls, and data integrity.
In this role you will be a part of an operation’s team that is responsible for providing timely and accurate investment data to the investment boutiques and clients of our Separately Managed Account investment products. Within this team there are a wide variety of learning opportunities that make up the back-office support system for our investment teams including Account Administration, Cashflow Management, Reconciliation, Account Trading, and Performance.
The ideal candidate will use their problem-solving and analytical abilities to process tasks with high efficiency and accuracy while reviewing for business risk and implementing risk reducing solutions. Assertiveness and attention to detail are also key to this area of our company.
This position requires candidates to work 6:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. 40 hours/week from January 2020- August 2020.
Candidates must be working toward or have bachelor's degree – preference to candidates who have course or work experience in business including Finance, Accounting, Business Analytics, or related majors.
Excellent problem solving, analytical, organizational, and communication skills required.
Candidates must possess strong computer skills including experience with MS Word and Excel.
Must be able to work in fast-paced environment and be able to meet daily, weekly, and monthly deadlines.
Keen sense of intellectual curiosity.
Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
Investment related business acumen
A 3.0 GPA or above
Exposure to data analysis and/or investment concepts through intermediate level coursework, community or student organization involvement and/or internship/employment experiences
Highly detail oriented with a critical degree of accuracy regarding data entry and analysis
Willingness to take on new tasks and look for ways to improve or automate processes
