MidAmerican Energy Company Intern - Engineering Gas Distribution in Des Moines, Iowa

The purpose of the engineering internship position is to develop college students that are pursuing a bachelor's degree in engineering. Interns may be exposed to a variety of projects and activities that occur within the utility business. Interns will have the opportunity to apply knowledge and skills learned in college and demonstrate abilities in the work place. The position is temporary, nonexempt, part-time/hourly.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Function)

Create/complete specialty maps/drawings and engineering details utilizing company’s geographic information system and computer aided drafting software (Intergraph-GTechnology; Bentley-Microstation).

Assist in the design of gas distribution government rebuild and reliability projects.

Assist with field work (inspection, staking, measuring, and record verification).

Assist with coordination of design and construction of gas facilities with consulting engineers and construction contractors.

Assist with pipeline facility corrosion protection analysis and trouble shooting.

Assist Engineering Supervisor with data analysis, summary and reporting.

Update gas distribution maps and records as necessary.

Update gas distribution shutdown plans.

Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.

Must be a college student, sophomore or higher standing, currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program in electrical, chemical, civil, construction, mechanical or industrial engineering.

Prior utility or energy industry experience helpful.

Software skills needed to be used in extracting information from various sources, conducting analysis and assisting workforce to achieve goals.

Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word and Excel.

Must have experience using AutoCAD, Microstation, or other computer aided design software.

Must have the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.

Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.

Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.

Must possess a valid driver's license and good driving record.
