Job Description

The Iowa Department of Human Rights is seeking a current student for an intern position. The Department of Human Rights is a dynamic organization that provides leadership, opportunity and advocacy for Iowa's under-represented populations. We work closely with individuals, stakeholder groups, other state and local government agencies and policy makers to ensure access to opportunity for Iowans.

We focus our efforts on:

  • Increasing civic engagement and participation; helping people develop their capacity to become agents of change

  • Developing youth leadership; building resourcefulness by developing leadership and improving systems that impact young people

  • Enhancing community connections; magnifying and elevating issues, ideas, cultures and contributions of our communities to improve the way people connect with one another

This position will focus on the Client Assistance Program, which is a federally mandated program designed to assist individuals who encounter conflicts with programs funded under the Rehabilitation Act. The position helps people with disabilities receive quality services by advocating for their interests and helping them identify resources, understand procedures, resolve problems and protect their rights.
