Make your first play and interview on your campus with BKD. As a summer leadership participant, you will have the opportunity to take a closer look at our firm, our opportunities, and our people. Participants will gain experience from social interaction, team building activities, one-on-one time with partners and associates, and more. Depending on the location of your choice, many of our BKD offices will be conducting summer leadership programs in their applicable cities. The Des Moines, IA, program will be held in early June 2019. As an intern or associate at BKD, you will gain valuable experience and use your use your critical thinking abilities to help clients solve problems or apply your social skills to build rewarding business relationships. You will work with clients from a variety of industries as you develop your technical skills and strengthen the foundation on which you will build your career. You will also work alongside our senior staff and management personnel, learning from their experience as you develop your skill set. Depending on local office needs, internships are available in audit, tax, or a combination of the two and can be part-time or full-time. Generally, spring semester internships run from mid-January through April 15th and summer internships can typically run from June through August. ResponsibilitiesInterns and Associates may take on the following responsibilities:Complete audit testing on financial statement accounts such as cash, accounts payable, or fixed assetsWork with client personnel to reconcile account differences and analyze financial dataHelp draft management letter comments and the audit reportPrepare individual, corporate, partnership or other tax returnsCalculate tax extension or estimate paymentsParticipate in client meetings alongside BKD partners and managersQualificationsSuccessful associates, interns, and summer leadership participants display the following skills and characteristics:Solid technical accounting knowledgeEffective time managementStrong oral and written communication skillsStrong computer skills preferred, including Microsoft Office suiteAbility to work well with a team as well as independentlyProblem-solving attitudeWillingness to take initiativeClose attention to detailAbility to work under pressure and against deadlinesIntern candidates must be working toward an accounting degree and CPA exam eligibility, while associate positions require a bachelor's or master's degree in accounting and CPA exam eligibility prior to the start of employmentGPA of 3.0 or higher (in major and overall) preferredU.S. citizenship or Lawful Permanent Resident status is required for intern and entry-level audit or tax associate positions.Experience the BKD difference for yourself.
