COURSE DESCRIPTION: Seeking an Elementary Education Major for Summer Intern position to help supervising teachers create a safe and engaged environment for the elementary summer program. Intern should understand the importance of classroom management and be able to meet the individual children's needs and interests, reflect on teaching practices and evaluate the effect of choices on students, colleagues, and families. Demonstrate supportive teacher-child relationships and promote positive peer relationships. Position: Elementary Teacher (1st Grade (2) and 2nd Grade (2) Department: Teaching and Learning Location: Longfellow Elementary School Schedule: 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., Monday - Friday Duration: June 3 - July 12 (CLOSED July 4) Hourly Rate: $15.00 Duration of Internship: June - August, estimated 9 weeks STANDARDS / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Understand procedures to document observations using techniques such as running records, anecdotal records, event sampling, time sampling, rating scales, and checklists.
  • Develop positive, collaborative relationships with colleagues, other professionals, and families and work effectively as a member of a professional team.
  • Reflect on teaching practices, self-assess and evaluate the effect of choices and actions on children, parents, and other professionals to plan and modify teaching behaviors and program plans.
  • Demonstrate supportive teacher-child relationships and promote positive peer relationships.
  • Understand the importance of transition and classroom management to create a safe and engaged environment.
  • Demonstrate the ability to use guidance and management techniques to support the social and emotional development of young children.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • CBCSD Student
  • Aged 16 or older
  • Have completed at least the Child Development Elective course

NOTES:

  • This internship WILL require a signed parental consent form.
  • Interns may have to go to meetings the week of May 7 after school. These meetings will be paid.
