Integrated DNA TechnologiesID 2019-4793Job Locations US-IA-CoralvilleCategory Engineering# of Openings 1Posted Date 13 hours agoShift/Schedule Flexible. 20-35 hours between Monday-Friday 8am - 5pmOverview The Design Engineering Intern works directly with engineering staff to assist in the design, specification and testing of hardware and software for the development of custom manufacturing equipment for IDT's innovative biology products.ResponsibilitiesEssential Functions:* Assists with completing Design Engineering tasks as assigned by supervisor.* Works directly with Engineers to learn to design, test and assemble the mechanical, electrical and software products in order to support the development of DNA production equipment.* Assists Engineering staff with specifications, design control standards, and documentation.* Communicates design concepts and analysis through technical drawings and standard engineering documents.* Supports project team with CAD work, light machine shop work, assembly work, and documentation as required.* Supports and participates in project technical reviews. * Learns to comply with all IDT and Design Engineering quality standards. * Learns to practice safe working habits, follows all IDT safety policies, and identifies, corrects, and reports potential safety hazards.* Demonstrates behavior consistent with the Integrated DNA Technologies' Core Values.* Other duties as assigned. Education:* High School diploma required* Prior completion or enrollment in a two/four year engineering/science program preferred.Professional Experience:* Previous applicable experience preferred.Other Job Qualifications* Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and documents. * Basic understanding of engineering and scientific concepts.* Mechanical and/or electrical aptitude.* Able to use Microsoft office applications, CAD software and other engineering design software applications* Ability to work in a team environment and follow instructions from supervisor. * Ability to interact in a professional manner with peers, suppliers, customers, employees, and all levels of management.* Ability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another without loss of efficiency or composure.* Ability to maintain both a high standard of courtesy and cooperation in dealing with co-workers. * Ability to accept responsibility for the direction, control or planning of an activity. * Adaptability to situations requiring the precise attainment of set limits, tolerances or standards. * Ability to perform repetitive work or to perform continuously the same work, according to set procedures sequence or pace.Physical Requirements:Exert 20-50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or 10-15 lbs. of force frequently Frequent (34%-66% of work day)* Reaching: extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction. * Standing: maintaining an upright position. * Walking: moving about on foot to accomplish tasks. * Hearing: perceiving the nature of sounds at normal range; ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make fine discriminations in sound, such as when auscultating and percussing. * Repetitive Motion: substantial movements (motion) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.* Pushing/Pulling: using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward/using upper extremities to exert force in order to drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.Occasional (33% or less of work day) * Sitting: to assume a position in which the weight is largely supported by the buttocks, usually with the body vertical and the thighs horizontal. * Lifting: raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position. * Using Fingers/Grasping/Feeling: writing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling.
