Collins Aerospace is currently seeking a Mechanical Designer Intern. Performs a wide variety of technical tasks which requires basic knowledge of engineering techniques and beginner experience using mechanical design theory in the creation of computer models to determine design solutions for electronic equipment and systems. Candidates may assist in the modifications of engineering design prototypes and/or first article electronic equipment in preparation for production design release of product. Candidates may also assist in the creation of design documentation and release of documentation into the enterprise business systems.
Assist in the preparation of required records for the release of design data and design documentation into the company data and documentation control systems.
Learn about design database and documentation checking responsibilities for new design and drawing release or revisions to existing design and design drawings and documentation.
Assist engineering in determining and employing proper specifications for materials, finishes and processes, connectors or other electrical components, etc.
Under supervision and direction: Performs a variety of technical tasks which require basic knowledge of engineering techniques and beginners level design theory to create precision mechanical or electrical design layouts. May utilize verbal instructions, sketches, schematic diagrams, existing hardware or engineering lab models, received from mechanical and/or electrical engineering and other technical support personnel working on the project.
Apply knowledge of manufacturing, tolerancing, and producibility capabilities during the design process to ensure cost effective design.
Assist engineering in determining and employing proper specifications for materials, finishes and processes, connectors or other electrical components, etc. during the design process.
Apply Company, Industry and Contractual standards during the preparation of hardware design and documentation data.
Assist with the preparation of the necessary technical documentation for the release of Hardware design data into the company documentation control system.
Has a beginner’s level understanding of the CAD and data management tools to enable completion of design tasks.
May assist the CAD tool support team in testing and debugging of software tools as tool vendor releases them.
May assist in development of new design/documentation techniques and procedures based on the current government or commercial publications for design/documentation requirements.
May provide validation of change definition artifacts for revisions to existing design and drawing/documentation.
May provide validation of revision capture definition into formal design and documentation data in accordance with defined change requirements.
May provide design database and documentation checking for new design and drawing release.
Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and student must be pursuing a Bachelor's or advanced degree in an applicable discipline.
Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident “Green Card” holder
