Raytheon Technologies Cyber Defense and Engineering Intern (Summer 2022) in Cedar Rapids, Iowa

Position Overview:

Collins Aerospace is seeking an experienced and motivated individual to join the Digital Technologies (DT) Security Operations staff as a Cybersecurity Intern on the Network Security team.

The Cybersecurity Intern is expected to work with several professionals on cross-functional teams to provide security services, assess risk, troubleshoot and resolve issues in support of key projects and initiatives. The Cybersecurity Intern is expected to work among a team of skilled professionals to address simple to moderately complex problems across the various security functions. The tasks will support a wide variety of security services focused on implementing security controls, performing analysis, completing documentation on IT security devices and systems, and regulating network access. The cybersecurity intern is expected to operate and perform at the highest levels of confidentiality and integrity.

Position Responsibilities:

The focus of this role is working within the Collins Aerospace DT Cybersecurity department reporting to the Sr. Manager, Network Security, DT Cybersecurity Defense & Engineering. Job responsibilities are:

  • Assist team with milestones on security projects. This includes but is not limited to using the command line interfaces on the various technologies, script creation, log monitoring, infrastructure configurations and documentation.

  • Assist with tier two security support services for the enterprise. This includes triage and timely resolution of tickets, as well as completion of requests within prescribed Service Level Agreements (SLAs) in the ServiceNow Ticketing System.

  • Assist in all procedures necessary to ensure the safety of information systems assets and to protect systems from intentional or inadvertent access or destruction.

  • Evaluate, seek approval and implement simple to moderately complex firewall requests based on security policies and standards

  • Assists with detailed troubleshooting in support of system remediation efforts.

  • Remediation of tickets placed into the Network Security queue

  • Escalating security tickets or tasks to parties responsible for remediation or additional analysis when necessary

  • Escalating issues as necessary to lead or Network Security Sr. Manager

  • Following up on open items to ensure timely resolution.

  • Making recommendations for adjustments to standard work as situations emerge that are not yet captured in documentation.

  • Working towards understanding of information security various projects, reports, and tasks as assigned

    Basic Qualifications:

  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and student must be pursuing a Bachelor's or advanced degree in an applicable discipline.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Security, or STEM program.

  • Understanding of fundamental security and network concepts

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills

  • Have demonstrated problem solving skills
