Position overview The Engineering Support Services team, within Central Engineering Services, has three openings for AI Engineering Interns within the Operational Support team. This position will report directly to the Operational Support team leader. This position will be working to create the Knowledge Management Exploratory Bot. This project will seek to investigate targeted, defined ways artificial intelligence and machine learning can augment and improve learning and training needs identification. Interns will be helping to analyze pre-identified datasets using AI/ML techniques within our tool environment to test out a series of hypothesis relating to program financial impacts of onboarding. Interns will also help support a results review process, intended to test assumptions and refine outputs. As a complement to the AI/ML bot development, interns will evaluate and support implementation of a skill assessment and learning platform tool, working collaboratively with teams across the enterprise.

Job Description

The Mission Systems Summer Engineering Project Program (SEPP) is our Elite Summer Program that has been around since 1995. This program aligns projects from various directorates that support research & partnerships on campus. During the summer each project is aligned with a technical mentor & a defined project plan & milestone.

At the end of the summer session, SEPP interns will be provided the opportunity to present their work to leaders and technical fellows across the Mission Systems business unit as well as creating a booth for a hands-on experience at the SEPP Fair.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and apply AI/ML algorithms to technical challenges related to learning and training

  • Select appropriate datasets and data representation methods

  • Analyze data

  • Automate processes by utilizing machine learning

  • Communication with project managers, engineering and various levels of leadership.

  • Collaborate with Knowledge Management and Engineering mentors

  • Complete projects in a timely fashion.

  • Organize, gather and analyze information for a variety of projects.

  • Skills developed:

  • Individual job duties may vary

  • Experience working in a team environment

  • Experience with data analytics

  • Knowledge of machine learning frameworks, libraries, and software architecture

  • Proficiency of mathematics, probability, statistics, and algorithms

  • Ability to structure unstructured data

  • Demonstrated ability in multiple programming languages, including Python, Java, and R

    Basic Qualifications:

  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and student must be pursuing a Bachelor's or advanced degree in an applicable discipline.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.5 of above

  • Students should be at junior or senior status by summer 2022
