Job Summary
The Student Nurse Intern position provides an opportunity for nursing students to relate nursing theory to practice, gain experience with clinical skills, and utilize the nursing process to provide effective patient care. The Student Nurse Intern performs basic nursing care procedures, under the supervision of a registered nurse.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Deliver safe, direct care to patients or residents under the supervision and direction of a registered nurse.
• Anticipates and responds promptly to patient needs. Consults with nursing team and reports pertinent information to team members.
• Performs accurate reporting and documentation including, but is not limited to, vital signs, weight, behavior, mobility, patient care procedures, and patient response.
• Assists with patient admission, transfer or discharge following established procedures.
• Attends and participates in scheduled training, education, and staff meetings.
• Practices and behaves in a professional, safe and ethical manner at all times.
• Serves as a patient advocate.
• Maintains friendly and courteous interpersonal communication skills and a positive service attitude.
• Works willingly and accepts assignments as given.
• Performs other duties as necessary or assigned.
• Complies with the Corporate Compliance Policy and all laws, regulations, and Standards of Conduct relating to the position and agrees to report any suspected violations of law or Standards of Conduct.
• Complies with all applicable state and federal regulations.
• Maintains a safe work environment using safe work practices, utilizing standard precautions and complying with hazardous waste procedures at all times as described in St. Anthony's Safety Manual.
• Maintains the confidentiality of patient, resident, employee and organizational information.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
• Must be enrolled in an approved nursing program and have successfully completed the first year of the program.
Position Requirements, Certifications, Licenses, Registrations.
• Current Certified Nursing Assistant certification
• Basic Life Support certification.
• Customer service skills with the ability to work effectively and positively with a variety of patients, employees, departments, and the public.
• Organizational skills and attention to detail.
Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; talk and hear; and use hands to finger, handle or feel. The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to walk and sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. May be exposed to infectious diseases and occupational dangers like accidental needle pricks. Must be able to withstand physical and emotional stress.
