MercyOne Central Iowa operates four not-for-profit Catholic medical centers in Des Moines West Des Moines Newton and Centerville and two specialty hospitals – MercyOne Children’s Hospital in Des Moines and MercyOne Rehabilitation Hospital in Clive (965 beds total) – along with more than 20 additional facilities that house more than 50 primary care pediatric internal medicine and specialty clinics. Prepares patient drug orders as follows (with proper checks performed by a pharmacist as required by law): enters patient prescription orders into the computer; selects correct medication, strength and dosage form; prepares labels; selects and affixes auxiliary labels to medications as appropriate and legally required; counts, measures, weighs & pours medications; documents doses dispensed; and files medication orders.
Cleans counters, medication drawers, carts, shelves, and equipment as needed.
Assists the pharmacists with audits (e.g. allergy, weight, etc.).
Enters and fills stock bags and fills stock requisitions for other departments.
Accurately processes and restocks medications for departments utilizing automated dispensing systems, i.e. Pyxis/Acudose
Performs a variety of medication inventory-related tasks including: communication of stock utilization and ordering needs; assisting with reordering; checking of expiration dating with alerts to pharmacists when needed; and rotating and restocking.
Compounds and labels extemporaneous liquid and solid products for patients according to procedure.
Answers telephone and process requests according to procedures.
Participates in the training of new technicians.
Charges and credits individual patient accounts.
High school diploma or GED.
Current enrollment in a pharmacy school or program or proof of verbal commitment to a pharmacy school or program.
Must be registered as a pharmacy intern with the State of Iowa at the time of hire or registered as a Technician in Training for up to 12 months until able to apply for Intern status after first day of pharmacy school or program. May also be registered as a Certified Pharmacy Technician until Intern status can be obtained.
Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training for child and dependent adult abuse within three (3) months of hire.
