Mom's Meals Food Safety & Quality Intern in Ankeny, Iowa

Position SummaryThe Food Safety & Quality Intern will be exposed to a wide variety of responsibilities and learning opportunities across numerous internal departments. The Mom's Meals Summer Internship Program is a paid project-based 10 or 12-week program beginning either May 15th of May 30th and ending August 4th. Our project-based internship program provides participants with the training, coaching, and hands-on experience to be successful professionals in their chosen fields. Our internship assignments focus on practical, value added projects that help create a connection between what is learned in the classroom and what is required in manufacturing projects. Internship location will be onsite in our corporate office in Ankeny, IA,Position Responsibilities may include, but not limited to:

  • Assist in the design of shelf-life studies for meals and blended ingredients utilizing basic laboratory testing techniques such as pH, moisture and sensory analysis.

  • Ability to utilize basic microorganism knowledge to assist in shelf-life study design and data review

  • Ability to document, trend, and interpret data generated from shelf-life studies

  • Assist in gathering meals and/or ingredients as needed for quality review

Required Skills and Experience

  • Currently pursuing a degree in a science related field (i.e. Food Science, Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry)

  • College sophomore status or higher; minimum GPA of 2.75

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)

  • Accuracy and strong attention to detail; ability to prioritize effectively

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Professional, positive, and enthusiastic attitude

  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Science Courses with laboratory experience

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to use hands to feel, grab, or operate objects, tools, and controls while reaching with hands and arms

  • Frequently required to stand, communicate, and listen.

  • Occasionally required to walk, stoop, kneel or crouch.

  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

  • Visual perception to perform job including peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Able to perform repetitive movements

  • Able to work in variable temperatures (cold/hot)
