Mom's Meals EHS Intern in Ankeny, Iowa

Position SummaryThis EHS Intern contributes to the success of Mom's Meals by ensuring regulatory compliance and prevention-focused Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) controls in a location or across a region. The Mom's Meals Summer Internship Program is a paid project-based 12-week program beginning May 16th and ending August 5th. This internship will be onsite at our corporate office in Ankeny, IA.

As an intern, you will gain exposure at either the regional or plant/distribution center level. You will work side-by-side with our EHS team on managing the Environmental Health and Safety Management system that aims to help our team members, the environment and our community by reducing injuries and preventing environment and community impacts through collision reduction.Position Responsibilities may include, but not limited to

  • Deliver OSHA required general awareness training to new hires

  • Deliver two authorized level training topics (i.e., Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space, etc.)

  • Interface with regulatory bodies (DOT, State/Local Regulators) as needed

  • Perform risk assessments and assist in the implementation of effective physical and/or behavioral controls measures; recognize and verify the effectiveness of in-place control measures

  • Participate in incident root cause analysis and develop corrective action plans through the use of 5-Why cause analysis techniques

Required Skills and Experience

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Health, Safety & Environmental Sciences; other related majors will be considered

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0

  • Be at least 18 years old at the time you begin the internship, and be at a college junior or senior level

  • Highly motivated self-starter

  • Proven people/project leadership throughout your academic career (on or off-campus)

  • Previous experience in an operations environment (on or off-campus; either through employment or academic clubs)

  • Ability to work in an unstructured environment with the ability to make tradeoff decisions quickly

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a results-oriented, challenging environment

  • Effective coaching, facilitation, presentation and team building skills

  • Ability to give/receive constructive feedback

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to use hands to feel, grab, or operate objects, tools, and controls while reaching with hands and arms

  • Frequently required to stand, communicate, and listen

  • Occasionally required to walk, stoop, kneel or crouch

  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

  • Visual perception to perform job including peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

  • Able to perform repetitive movements

  • Able to work in variable temperatures (cold/hot)
