Renewable Energy Group Intern, Government Affairs in Ames, Iowa

Our comprehensive,12-week paid internship programgives you the opportunity to test your skills working for the nation’s leading producer of cleaner fuels and developer of renewable chemicals. This internship will begin May 17, 2021 and end August 7, 2021. REG values our interns. Our hopes are to host you in person, but with the potential of being remote like we committed to in the summer of 2020.


The purpose of this internship is to aid the Renewable Energy Group® (REG), Inc. government affairs team in increasing awareness of Renewable Energy Group and its products and services with policy makers, influencers and industry members while offering an educational and empowering internship experience resulting in multiple portfolio pieces.


  • Government Affairs

  • Research, monitor and report state and local biodiesel-related laws and regulations

  • Help plan and implement educational facility tours for legislators, regulators, candidates, and other key stakeholders

  • Assist in creating educational materials for policymakers and influencers

  • Corporate Communications

  • Aid in developing an internal newsletter for supporters of the REG Political Action Committee (PAC)

  • Draft staff outreach messaging to encourage engagement in REG policy activities (i.e. call to action emails to legislators, comments to regulatory proposals, etc.) and participation in the political process (i.e. registering to vote, when/where to vote, etc)

  • Help with PAC fundraising programming and communications

  • Corporate Outreach

  • Assist with outreach and relationship management with key industry partners and stakeholder groups


Education Required:

  • Junior, senior or graduate standing

Skills Preferred:

  • Experience in policy or government affairs and public relations desired.

  • Experience in fuels, energy, or agriculture a plus but not required
