Renewable Energy Group Intern, Financial Planning & Analysis in Ames, Iowa

Our comprehensive, 12-week paid internship program gives you the opportunity to test your skills working for the nation’s leading producer of cleaner fuels and developer of renewable chemicals. This internship will begin May 17, 2021 and end August 7, 2021. REG values our interns. Our hopes are to host you in person, but with the potential of being remote like we committed to in the summer of 2020.

POSITION PURPOSE:

The purpose of this position is to assist with forecasting financial results and budgeting of revenue and expenses for the company. This position will be a business partner to the leadership and finance teams, providing support and guidance on a broad range of company goals and objectives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Key Accountabilities:

Forecasting

•Model projected sales, cost of sales and plant expenses

•Work with various department leaders and senior leaders along with key company team members to gather financial data and investigate results, projections or solutions to issues

•Analyze variances between forecast and actual financial results

•Monitor and improve reporting processes

Budgeting

•Analyze the accuracy of data gathered and follow up with key personnel throughout the company

•Assist with analyzing budget vs. actual results

•Build and report key financial metrics

•Monitor and improve budget processes

Other frequent duties:

•Recommend process improvements in reporting

•Assist with investor relations presentations

•Assist teams related to

•M&A activities

•Government reporting

•Analysis of financial results

Perform other duties as assigned

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Be available for daily work and overtime as required

Communicate effectively with customers and co-workers (oral and written)

Demonstrate attention to detail

Ability to use office equipment (computer, copy/fax machine, telephone, postage meter, etc)

Organize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meeting deadlines

Provide suggestions to offer alternative perspectives to situations

Work independently or with others as a team to complete assigned projects

Ability to perform algebraic and logic calculations

Collect, analyze and organize information into a logical and efficient format to support economic and efficiency analyses

Provide personal contact information on an as needed basis for official business purposes

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Education Required: Pursuing a bachelor’s degree – Accounting, or related degree

**Senior or Junior status required

Experience Required: Business environment experience, relevant courses, club participation and internship preferred

Skills Required:

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word)

Advanced math and accounting skills

Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principals

Special skills or knowledge preferred:

Financial / operational modeling
